| - Il est vain de prétendre enseigner les principes et les contenus de la philosophie de Hume. Et le problème n’est pas de laisser sa place à la controverse, mais de comprendre qu’on n’a pas affaire à un système, que les principes sont obscurs et que les contenus sont sceptiques. La carrière du commentaire est indéfiniment ouverte, pour peu qu’on ne verse pas dans le dogmatisme. Par une rationalité constamment déceptive, Hume reconduit tous ceux qui s’intéressent à lui, commentateurs compris, à l’esprit de la philosophie. En un mot, et c’est la meilleure raison du commentaire, Hume n’enseigne pas, il invite à philosopher.» Michel Malherbe.
