note	On the contrary methodological individualism, as theorized by M. Weber and R. Boudon, is of great interest for the study of antisemitism. Of course it does not provide a pattern to understand hostility towards the Jews, because there is no such pattern. Indeed, antisemitism is not ruled by a single mechanism. Until the Middle Ages, this antisemitic hatred was rooted in religious thought, with the rise of modernity, this prejudice gradually changed into a form of secular religion. Le modèle du bouc émissaire domine la sociologie de l'antisémitisme. Pourtant, ce facteur explicatif ne rend pas l'hostilité aux juifs intelligible ; il se contente de substituer de l'inexpliqué à de l'inexplicable. Considérer les bourreaux comme soumis au mécanisme du bouc émissaire conduit à adhérer à une conception holiste et déterministe du social. Or, ce sont là deux caractéristiques des théories antisémites ; ces dernières décrivent les Juifs depuis une perspective également holiste et déterministe.
