| - More than thousand cuban volunteers fought in the defence of the spanish republic in 1936. How can this massive enrolment be explained? This thesis proposes to find an answer to the question.To do this the first part presents those aspects of the historical context in cuba and spain which gave rise to a feeling that both countries shared a common context. The second part attempts to show what incited men to enrol:The association of the failure in the 1930's of the revolution in cuba and the attack on the spanish republic and how it triggered a change of attitude towards spain. This is followed by a study of how the volunteers were recruited as well as a political profile of a cuban contingent. The third part deals with the activity and effectiveness of the cuban brigades at war.An attempt is made to interpret the testimony of the combatants and the intellectuals. The fourth part shows how the cuban volunteers withdrew from the war zone and discusses what happened to them in the french and spanish camps.It seeks to understand whether their farewell to spain was also a farewell to arms.
- Plus de mille volontaires cubains s'engagent dans la défense de la république espagnole en 1936.Comment expliquer cet engagement massif? cette thèse propose de répondre à cette question.Pour ce faire, la première partie expose quelques aspects des contextes historiques cubain et espagnol qui ont suscite le sentiment d'une identité de contextes.La deuxième partie met à jour ce qui a oeuvre dans la decision d'engagement: L'interférence entre l'échec de la révolution des années 30 à Cuba et l'agression contre la république espagnole, qui a bouleversé les sentiments à l'égard de l'Espagne. De cette analyse se dégage un système de représentations aux dimensions mythiques.Une étude du recrutement des volontaires et du profil politique du \"contingent\" cubain complète cette approche.La troisième partie traite de l'action des brigadistes cubains sur les fronts et des vicissitudes de leur vie.Elle s'attache ensuite a apprehender le discours des combattants et des intellectuels. La quatrième partie expose les modalités du retrait des volontaires de la guerre et leur expérience des camps français et espagnols.Elle tente de comprendre si l'adieu à l'Espagne aura été un adieu aux armes.
