- The aim of this work was to identify antitumoral molecules in marine organisms. We performed the chemical analyses of two sponges of the Axinellidae family from the Indian Ocean. Liquid extraction, chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography were realized. The structural determination was accomplished by performing usual spectroscopic methods, notably nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The studies of Axinella cf. bidderi and Axinella weltneri using bioassay fractionation led to isolation of 12 molecules with 5 new structures including sterols and triterpenes. The cytotoxic activity was evaluated against human tumoral cell lines.
