"Depuis plusieurs d\u00E9cennies, l\u2019Organisation des Nations Unies (ONU) \u2013 ses Etats membres, ses programmes officiels et ses fonctionnaires \u2013 s\u2019int\u00E9resse aux connexions entre environnement et s\u00E9curit\u00E9. Pourtant, l\u2019inscription des probl\u00E9matiques environnementales dans l\u2019agenda s\u00E9curitaire onusien n\u2019a pas fait l\u2019objet d\u2019une \u00E9tude d\u00E9taill\u00E9e. De m\u00EAme, la litt\u00E9rature sur la construction sociale des enjeux de s\u00E9curit\u00E9 ne propose pas un \u00E9clairage exhaustif sur les fonctions des organisations internationales dans le processus de s\u00E9curisation. La pr\u00E9sente th\u00E8se vise \u00E0 combler ces vides. S\u2019appuyant sur des enqu\u00EAtes d\u2019inspiration ethnographique \u2013 observations participantes, entretiens semi-directifs \u2013, elle examine, de l\u2019int\u00E9rieur, l\u2019int\u00E9gration de l\u2019environnement dans la d\u00E9finition et la gestion de la s\u00E9curit\u00E9 \u00E0 l\u2019ONU. La recherche a ainsi montr\u00E9 que, ancr\u00E9s dans des intentionnalit\u00E9s multiples \u2013 strat\u00E9gies gouvernementales, organisationnelles et individuelles \u2013, les efforts de s\u00E9curisation de l\u2019environnement \u00E0 l\u2019ONU s\u2019articulent autour de quatre modalit\u00E9s principales : s\u00E9curisation par le langage, s\u00E9curisation par l\u2019int\u00E9gration institutionnelle, s\u00E9curisation par la technique, s\u00E9curisation invers\u00E9e. Les man\u0153uvres de s\u00E9curisation sont confront\u00E9es \u00E0 des obstacles relevant tant de contraintes impos\u00E9es par les Etats membres que de rivalit\u00E9s internes. "For decades, the United Nations (UN) \u2013 its member states, its programs and its personnel \u2013 have been concerned with how the environment and security are linked. However, academic research does not offer an extensive analysis of the ways environmental issues have been promoted within the UN security agenda. Likewise, the literature on the construction of security issues does not provide comprehensive insight on the role of international organizations in the securitization process. This dissertation aims to fill these gaps. Based on a grounded theory approach and ethnographic methods \u2013 participant observations, semi-structured interviews \u2013 it investigates the integration of the environment into the definition and management of security within the UN, from the inside. First, research has revealed governments, organizations and individuals have multiple and sometimes competing motives. Second, at the UN, environmental securitization occurs through four main modalities: discursive securitization, institutional securitization, technical securitization, reverse securitization. Efforts to promote securitization may be opposed by the member states or competing UN agencies if such moves are counter to their interests. However, although few effects were observed on the global environmental governance system, securitizing moves are not inconsequential: they promote institutional change for securitizing actors and participate in building a \\\"symbolic order\\\" consisting of obligations and interdependence." . .
