"FORE, born in 1927 in BERAT (HAUTE-GARONNE), stands out as a poster designer (386 posters by the year 2000) by reason of his career, his style, his plastic creations (42 sculptures, 344 paintings) and his need to write (poetry, illustrated diary, aphorisms). Of a rural background, he followed correspondence courses in drawing, he attended Toulouse Beaux Arts and started drawing cartoons, and unexpectedly penetrated the world of poster design in 1950, through the Paris subway agency, Metrobus-Publicité, without previous apprenticeship to a master poster designer. In 1956, when he was 29, the exhibition "Vendre par l'affiche" (Selling by Posters) brought him into contact with elitist Franch poster designers. His style, in figures tending to the abstract, was distinguished in 1972 by the word "lignisme", which links it with kinetic art. He personifies the independent commercial artist who, without signing any contract whatsoever, could nevertheless survive for fifty years by means of campaigns for home economics, health, lottery, SNCF transportation, etc. His small formats have developed an avant-garde spirit : 258 pharmaceutical advertisements (inserts, illustrated circulars, press advertisements, leaflets, logos, packaging from 1955 to 1965) and graphic works for industry and agriculture. In 1978, he created a lacquered fresco in the RER, which integrated him into the sphere of influence of urban mural artists. In 1982, as he had published his posters on postcards, he attended postcard exhibits frequented by postcard collectors, who commissioned posters and postcards from him. Studying as it does both his commissioned creations and his free creations, the present analysis of 116 posters, 187 pharmaceutical advertisements, 33 industrial graphic first productions, 45 postcards, 1 painted wall, 42 sculptures, 125 paintings, 10 pages of illustrated diary, enables us to place FORE in a perspective of poster history dating from 1950 to 2000 and in the trend of XXth century art, particularly in kinetic art as it concerns his best posters." . .
