Starting from the observation of the stakes and issues generated around the reconstruction of the playing and the repertoire of the early Gaelic harp today, we intend to contribute to a renewing of its approach by an analysis using selected descriptive tools from the Sciences of Language. The principal collection of the musicology and organology related informations which was done in the first half of the 19th century by Edward Bunting ought to be questioned. First, an approach which will combine the automated lexicology and elements of discourse analysis has appeared to be the most appropriate in order to circumscribe the specificities of this source corpus : a quantitative and qualitative approach, which considers the co-text as a full and legitimate contextual element and which will study the contents of this source corpus within its own textual organisation and its semantic structures ; this indeed permits to bloom general characteristics which have since then been underestimated as such. A second analysis will more precisely study the Irish terminology of the instrument as given by E. Bunting, in order to determinate whether it is ancient and coherent, using in that goal the Interpretative Semantics and their more global anchor into a Semiotic of Cultures. This works permits to establish a contexts bank which provides prospective elements towards a possible cultural dictionary of the harp, and the future elaboration of a semiotic of execution sound/note. This thesis will then, in its last part, try to clarify the more general epistemological basis from which stems its interdisciplinarity into a musicology domain dedicated to ancient music or ancient folk music which is more transmitted by texts than by a direct human link of transmission, even if non textual elements (instruments, organology, visual representations, scores and fencings, etc.) have to be taken into consideration by the researcher. We will thrive to show at the same time, that the musicology domain would gain to try and seek transversal points with the sciences of language as well as that the sciences of languages can gain to rethink themselves into a wider frame of a semiotic of cultures, if not of a semiotic anthropology.
Partant de l'observation des enjeux et problématiques de la reconstruction du jeu et du répertoire de la harpe gaélique ancienne aujourd'hui, nous entendons contribuer à renouveler son approche par une analyse centrée sur les documents qui la fondent, à l'aide d'un certain nombre d'outils descriptifs venus des sciences du langage. Le collectage principal des données musicologiques et organologiques concernant cet instrument effectué dans la première moitié du 19e siècle par Edward Bunting mérite d’être questionné. Une approche combinant dans un premier temps la textométrie et des éléments d'analyse du discours a paru la plus à même de cerner les spécificités de ce corpus source : une approche qualitative et quantitative, qui considère le co-texte comme un élément contextuel à part entière et étudie le contenu de ce corpus source en tenant compte de l’organisation textuelle et de ses structures sémantiques, permet en effet de mettre à jour des caractéristiques générales jusqu’alors sous-estimées. Une seconde partie analyse plus précisément la terminologie irlandaise de l'instrument telle que fournie par E. Bunting pour déterminer son ancienneté et sa cohérence en la comparant à un large corpus de textes irlandais, et ce en mobilisant les principes et outils de la sémantique interprétative et de la sémiotique des cultures. Ce travail permet de constituer une banque de contextes qui offre notamment des éléments prospectifs de contribution autant à l’établissement d’un dictionnaire culturel de la harpe, qu’à l’élaboration future d’une sémiotique de l’exécution son/note. Cette thèse vise enfin, dans une dernière partie, à expliciter les bases épistémologiques plus générales à l’origine de son interdisciplinarité, dans un domaine musicologique dédié à la musique ancienne ou traditionnelle ancienne qui est davantage transmise par les textes que par un lien humain de transmission direct, même s’il faut prendre en compte les éléments non textuels également à la disposition du chercheur (instruments, dessins, partitions et tablatures conservés) : on cherchera à montrer tout à la fois que le domaine musicologique gagnerait à chercher des ponts transversaux avec les sciences du langage et que les sciences du langage peuvent gagner à se repenser dans le cadre plus large d’une sémiotique des cultures, voire d’une anthropologie sémiotique.
